The calendar flip

Usually when the calendar flips its page, I am filled with anticipation. I am generally all too ready to be done with the tired old month and wanting the fresh start that beckons in a new shiny month. I like the tiny chore of flipping to a new calendar page, the reveal of a forgotten picture or two and a quick accounting of birthdays and holidays and weekends.

This month was different. I was reminded this month that the arbitrary calendar flip marks the space between moments. Moments are all we really have. All the tiny moments shared with loved ones become fully valued when there are none left. These precious times… I’m so glad to have had them.

I am a lucky woman. I’ve been surrounded by amazing, quirky, interesting people since the day I was born. This month, the calendar flip felt like saying goodbye. How long till it feels like hello again?
