Their staccato sounds are the metronome to the conversation.

I sit and listen while we shell peas, snap beans & shuck corn.

Listen to the sounds of rhythmic work,

Listen to the stories,

to the German words & phrases thrown in for emphasis.

Listen. I’m listening.

Talk about the weather, the garden, the cows,

the birds outside on the feeder.

The orioles are back. Are they early or late?

Whistle a tune, sing a song, tell a joke, crack a smile

What?

Oh yeah, I got distracted, I’m keeping time.

I’m keeping time.

Time to go to town.

Purple shirt, Pink tie & White hat

A Distinctive Style.

Time for the chores. Driving the tractor. Digging potatoes.

Planting… endless… rows… of… peas…

Time in the garden,

planting flowers of every variety.

Time for lunch.

Orange pop in an apple juice bottle,

out in the field.

Rattle, Rattle, Rattle

of the glass on the table.

Would you like some milk?

Farm milk. White toast, buttered. Cereal on Sunday.

Little memories, like little harmonies,

Skim along the melody of our time together.

Measured by the rhythm,

of Green Garden Peas.

Wow … this was several lifetimes ago! How brilliant to be transported back to happy childhood memories at the farm, and a happy Granddad. Thanks, Geneva! :’)
